Reverser 350b

Post by captainfly » Tue May 28, 2019 8:06 am

Just finished putting everything together with a new reverser rebuild 350b. Goes into gear with reverser handle very hard or abruptly. It needs to a little softer , don’t want to tear up the isolator..any ideas anyone. I’m almost getting whiplashed.

Reverser shift speed is adjustable, it is in the service manual.

I have not looked at it in years, but there is an adjustment that has something to do with the delay on shifting. Don't go too soft, you want it to engage somewhat firmly to reduce slippage when engaging.

Been a while since I adjusted the engagement of the reverser but, I'll try to explain. The adjustment is done from under the dozer. I backed on a couple 4x4s to get the clearance I needed to slide under. The reverser valve housing is located on the left side of the machine and I believe it can be seen if the floor board was off. (not needed to adjust) I think there are 4 bolt heads facing down and the 2nd one from the rear of the machine should be a pipe plug that needs to be removed. Then there is a hex head bolt exposed which is the adjuster. I don't remember which way to turn it to quicken the engagement. You want the engagement to be quick and smooth, not so quick that it slams the dozer into movement. I think you want to replace the pipe plug before testing your adjustment or it will pump hydraulic fluid out.
