450c track master pin

Post by mbavers » Sun Sep 15, 2019 3:26 pm

A friend with a 1978 450c removed and replaced the track master pin and insists the was no retaining device (snap ring, etc.) to hold the pin--he just drove it out and drove it in. I can't imagine there being no retaining device. Is this possible?

The interference fit between the pin and pin holes in the rails hold it.

I have the same thing in the replacement track on my 40c. No problem.

Pretty common not to have a retainer...most folks tack weld the pin in place to ensure it stays put.

They are an 'interference' fit.

I've removed mine once. I see no danger of it ever coming out on its own.

There is nothing holding any of the other pins and bushings in, drive master is no different.
