JD350C question

I need a coupling for a JD350C dozer. The coupling goes between the reverser and the tranny. Best I can tell from looking at part numbers the part I need is T14923. I have found some online for $50-$75 but don't have much confidence in the quality of steel used and don't want to do this again any time soon. A good used coupling will suit me but don't want one that's worn out. Just don't want to spend $200 on one... I've spent enough.

With the amount of labour involved to replace why not go new. We have went as far as welding 2 new couplers together and then cutting to maximum length to avoid future rebuilds. We ran Widepads with hoes and turned up to 3-179 engines so we took ever step to improve longevity and reliability. You could always glue your coupler in with Devco putty or a similar which would take the slop out of a used coupler but you might not get it apart again. I’d spend the money if I were you.

after have coupling failure twice i placed hardened 5/16 "cap screws through both shafts and couling using carbide drills from home depot was not easy required cutting hole in top of housing to install bolt after assembly

So, does anyone have any experience with the cheaper aftermarket couplings? Can anyone confirm I have the correct part number?

That part number looks right from a review of the 350C parts catalog. It looks like that coupling was used in all the 350s , straight 350s through the 350D series.

I don’t think inside a machine is the spot to go with a cheap aftermarket part. The cost of time etc to pull it back apart, after the cheap part you saved money on money on, fails again. Just saying.

I replaced mine that, I believe, I got from Lavoy. You should take note of the shafts that the coupler is connecting. If the splines are poor on them, it will shorten the life of the coupler. There are a couple reasons why the coupler goes bad. If the housings have loose bolts, allowing the housings to split apart unevenly, (wider gap at the top) the shafts aren't rotating evenly on the splines. Also if your reverser isn't adjusted correctly and it slams/jerks/jolts the machine into motion, it twists harmfully hard on the splines on the shafts and the coupler.
