Backhoe 9300 hose

Post by Bobonh » Sat Dec 21, 2019 9:55 pm

My 350b backhoe has a broken boom hose. I see no way to reach inside the arm and reach the fitting. Thinking of cutting a hole in the boom to reach the piston area . Any ideas?

I believe you pull the pins and bring the cylinder down out of the boom to where you can reach the hose ends. It would need to be set down so the weight of the hoe is not on the boom cylinder, boom down would likely be best. Likely some oil will fly getting it there, if its not in a workable position now. Someone who has done one may be along with more info.

Yeah I want to be careful with all that weight. Might be able to splice the hose full extend the unit they lay it down in to a hole or ditch

Do you have a hose fitting crimper for field use or access to reusable fittings that match your hose? That is what it will need to splice it, as it has up towards 2500 psi during operation.

If that is the common barb with worm clamp type found in a hardware store, it is no good, unsafe, on your hydraulic lines. Those would only work on a low pressure application like an open return or suction line. They might hold for a bit, then blow apart leading to injuries and/or damage. There are some barb spud types with 2 or 4 bolt clamps that will work up some pressures, depends on hose size, but they are not common from what I have seen.

Replacement is best. If it was damaged in an area were it might be again (area outside of the boom cylinder pocket) you could have the new hose made as two hoses with a connection point where you could reach it without removing the cylinder.

Yes I have the four bolt clamp type. Just want to move the hoe enough so that the boom is closer to the ground and not flop over on me so I can try to remove the cylinder pins. Probably need additional blocking braces come alongside too.
