I only partially installed the original cover on my panel. Honestly I did not want to scratch anything. It looked like the only need would be to very slightly bend the tang that goes in the throttle slot so it tucks in. I can say that the new covers have the same dimensions as the original. I was very careful to try and make an exact part. Keep in mind they are hand made. But pretty darned accurate and I measured. I will most likely be putting an edge guard on what ever touches the instrument panel and possibly some very large heat shrink on the tang on mine. Again I don't want to scratch my work. At least till I get it running. :D
And yes, I would definitely make some tool trays. Providing I am able and there is nothing beyond what my tools will do to stop me. I do have a lot of metal tools. I should be able to make most any bend or stamping. I would like to see one first to make sure. My bending brakes and shears are not able to go thicker than 16GA. But yes....

I have not been able to finish up on the original panel just yet. But I will. I should be mailing everything by the middle of this coming week back to you. I just want the coating to fully cure. It's a bit cold for it.

Good morning.
Appreciate the up date and work you have done. Couple of things about using the cover (you may already know these but I thought I would review them, if not for us maybe future site users. The throttle must be in the slow idle position. The ignition key must be removed from the instrument panel. I have used my panel for about 5 years, on a regular basis. The fit is snug. I hold the cover in my left hand at a 30degree angle to the panel and slip the foot of the guard into the throttle slot, directly in front of the throttle shaft. Then it usually requires a little wiggle up and down as you gradually press the guard onto the instrument panel and the padlock post on the left side. I have some concerns about the added thickness of the guard with protective material (while trying to protect the paint). The fit is pretty precise. 1/8” padlock, IIRC.

I called Vander Haags about the tool tray that was on their website ( I believe you sent me a link with the tray pictured on their site). They dated the left battery box and tray “were already gone.” Would you be able to re-create the tray by looking at their picture as a reference and using measurements from you battery box?? My search continues, but has been fruitless.

Hope you have a great day.
Bruce

I will probably leave the washers under my padlock post till I see how things fit. There may not be room for what I want to do. Not a big deal as I will deal with abrasion marks and come to the conclusion it is just a crawler. :)

I'll look again at the picture of the tool tray. I am know I could make some thing that fits and functions well. It would be nice to duplicate it accurately. A luxury I guess.
It will probably be a bit before I can make time for it. I need to get my crawler done and running, and I have a pretty neat 75 Tucker snowcat coming here soon for a non OEM custom exhaust system . I am trading the work for an idler replacement as he has the pin tool and the crane on his work truck to deal with the track. Lots going on here. But I will look at the tray and probably do a request posting.
If all goes well today, after a plow and some shop work, I hope to coat your OEM cover this evening. I will let you know when to expect them in the mail.

Hi,

Is the 450 tool tray the same as the one for the 350? If so, I have a tool tray for my 350C which could be used to make up a pattern.

Hi Stan,
I am reading in my tool tray post that the tool tray is the same between the 350 and 450. That is good news. I should be getting some measurements via email this weekend. That is if my transition to satellite based phone and internet goes well tomorrow.

How would you feel about sending me the tool tray to copy it and promptly sending it back? I would pay any shipping costs. Having one in hand to copy is way better than trying to duplicate off of pictures or measurements. I realize this is a bit to ask. I would assure you that I would return it right away and I hope I have demonstrated that I am reliable with what I have done with Bruce's vandalism covers. I am sending his OEM cover and his new replica on Monday.
Please consider it and if you are comfortable doing that, I can PM my address and contact information. If you are not I absolutely understand and no harm no foul. :D

If one of these guys don't want to send you one, let me know. I pretty sure I still have one out of a 350C that I will send you.

Thank you LeonardL! It's nice to know there are options. Lets see what Stan says and go from there. This is a great site. I frequent several and this site is top notch in help.

Hi,

I am good with sending you my tray and you don't have to be all in a hurry to send it back. Keep it until you know you don't need it for any 'now, how exactly, did they do that?' moments. ;)

All I have in it is a hammer for the blade tilt wedges.

PM me your shipping address and I will get it off Monday or Tuesday.

Hi,

Well, it didn't get off today. I did get some pics, though. I stuck them in the other thread specifically for this toolbox part of this thread:

No sweat Stan, There is a lot going on and take your time. Bruce I just sent a PM with a tracking number. You should have your OEM and new repro covers by Wednesday. I sure am grateful. Please offer up feedback as that tells me if I am on the right track or need to make changes. :)

Hey oldmetalmender!

Both vandal guards have made it to Iowa safely. I’m still at work but my 15 yo son opened the package and sent some pictures to me. He always does this, I guess he loves opening the mail/presents. They look great. I will test fit and report back.
Thank you,
Bruce
