Looking for 450 tool tray pictures or measurements

Post by oldmetalmender » Thu Feb 06, 2020 11:13 am

Hi members,

Myself and member Btown are searching for good pictures and even better yet measurements of the tool tray found in the battery compartment on the 450 crawlers. If anyone knows where one is, or can take some pictures and measurements, (side wall height, end wall height, metal thickness, etc) that would be great. I want to reproduce them and having this info would be super.
Thank you!

Google 450B for sale. I saw a tray on one of those sites.

Tool tray part numbers between the 450C and 450E are the same in the parts book. AT 156947.

Well super Mike! We appreciate it. I will send a PM. Saturday mid day we are switching to satellite home phone and internet. I am supposed to be keeping my existing personal email. I hope it does not give any problems. If it bounces for some reason that might be why. I just wanted to mention it.
Thanks Bruce for checking the part numbers.

EDIT: PM sent!

Not that it matters but the same tray was used in the 350's as well.

I typed up 3 PM's to you folks. It appears they may be stuck in my outbox... Hmmmmm... I am hoping they went out.

Hi Al,

Got the latest PM. Much better to have the actual part in hand for replication than some photos and measurements.

Best,
Mike

Hi,

They sit in the Outbox until they are read at the other end.

I will get some pics of the bits today and post them, then pack them up to ship tomorrow.

For those folks not following the other thread, I'm loaning my 350C tool tray so it can be used to make new ones. The 350 having the same as the 450.

Thanks for explaining the outbox situation.

And thank you for sending the tool tray for me to duplicate. I tried to edit my PM to say that I would be reimbursing you for any shipping costs. I don't want this to cost you a thing. So thank you. This is great. :D

Hi,

Ok. It isn't shipped yet. I can't find a box near the right shape for this. I see where my wife has one with some of her crafting stuff in it, but I better wait until she comes home this evening before I, well you know, get in Trouble! :P

And, didn't get pics done yesterday. It was a day trip to the NC Outer Banks to snap a few new shots of old lighthouses with her and her new camera. And, my newer camera than the last time I shot any of the things.

So, I did get the pics this morning:

Here is the Tool Tray itself:

Image

Here is the wooden board you also have to make. This keeps dropped tools from making a serious issue with the batteries the tray sits over:

And, here are the two straps you have to make to hold the board above the batteries:

I will be sending the tray, board, and one of the straps.

Very interesting Stan. Is the board an OEM item? Or a safety add on to keep wrenches from shorting terminals? The tray looks pretty straight forward. Hopefully it is 16GA like the vandalism covers. I still have some left from a 4x4 sheet. Looking forward to it.
Take your time and I will reimburse your shipping costs. And yes, don't take the wife's craft box. I believe we ALL know better than to do that.

Very curious. Stan -thank you for the pictures and lending the tool tray bits. I have a remnant of the very same board with the lug nailed to one end. I always thought it was owner made. But now that I see yours, I suspect it was added by Deere through a safety/service bulletin. The board is not listed in the parts books, at least that I can find.

Best regards, Bruce

Hi,

I think it is a Deere item. My 1968 straight 350 had the board but the tool tray was gone. That one had the same cross bits added as this one. You can see the one on top of the board which keeps the tool tray from going all the way backwards. There is one on the bottom as well which appears to keep the board from sliding too far forward. Those cross bits are stapled, and that smacks of having been built by the same folks who make fruit crates. ;)

I will have to see if it shows in my 350C manuals or not. Regardless, I think it is a damn good idea.
