JD 550 Transmission ?

Post by bdog2 » Fri Feb 21, 2020 7:36 pm

Hi, can anyone tell me what would be a normal operating range for the transmission temperature on a JD 550 dozer? Looking at replacing my gauge and curious to know what kind of range I need on the gauge face.

I suggest you check through your Operator's Manual (OMT70877 for a straight 550) to get the correct info. My 450E Operator's Manual has drawings that show the temperature ranges in relationship to the color bands of the gauges in the "Operating the Engine" section and I expect the 550 manual will as well. The ranges might be the same but, the transmissions and the gauge part numbers are different, so the 450E does not match yours. Best to check your manual to get the right info, I could only compare the parts catalogs.

Also if you change gauges, with electric gauges you either need a way to confirm your existing sender is working, and the correct range, for the new gauge, or get a new sender that matches the new gauge and replace both at the same time.
