450B fluid types
450B fluid types
I can find capacities for everything. I’m just wondering what actual type fluid goes in each area of my 450B
Re: 450B fluid types
Below is the chart from the 450B Technical manual. You should contact Lavoy (postmaster@jdcrawlers.com) and get a copy of the Technical manual TM1033 and a copy of the 450B Operator's manual so you have the info like this and for adjustments when you need it. There is a copy of the 450B service manual on line at https://archive.org/details/John_Deere_Company that may help you for the present.
Note that John Deere 303 no longer exists since it contained sperm whale oil which was banned by the Endangered Species Act in the early 1970's. While some aftermarket oils/fluids are labelled as 303 they are suspect in quality given there is a component to 303 they can't get. The replacement from John Deere is Hy-Gard. The label on aftermarket oils/fluids that meet the Hy-Gard requirement should show it as meeting JD J20C. I have noted that on the attached picture.

Re: 450B fluid types
Would these specs apply to a late 60s 450 straight as well?
Re: 450B fluid types
The list is most likely ok but you should get a manuals (at least Operator's and Service/technical) for your machine to confirm. Lavoy sell manuals in his store and can help you get the right ones.

Re: 450B fluid types
JimB,
You posted great info.
Another forum recently posted a similar thread about 303.
Described a lawsuit that exposed same- not a valid standard and basically bottling what’s mopped up off the floor.
Wish you guys had posted this 6 mo this ago!
Had changed my tranny screen and fluid and thought was being good using 303 from parts house- as per manual.
Developed rapid pulsing in steering levers- knew was pump or relief valve issue.
After reading your and the other forum’s posts, changed to HyGard and, so far, pulsing free.
Your info should be on a “sticky” with other basic machine info.
Thanks again,
Darryl
