350C Cross Country Travel

Hello!

I have an old 350C Wide Pad dozer I am looking at brining home out of the woods in Alaska! This dozer is old and tired, I will be doing a restoration on her once I get it back home.

There is an old thread from back in 2016 when I was getting this dozer back up and going after sitting for 20+ years in remote Alaska untouched, now id like to bring it out because I am barging a much newer 550G down to take its place, unfortunately the old wide pad is about 2" too wide to fit on the barge to bring home and I am not willing to cut the pads in order to make it fit.

I will be driving (hopefully) this out during the winter so I need to know what I need to prep for, or what is going to take the most abuse during this trek. It will be roughly 30 miles across the trail, the trail itself is not bad and will not be hard on the dozer other then the distance. I am not concerned with wearing out the undercarriage because all that will be replaced once I get it home. What other components do I need to consider if I am going to make a 30 mile run with the old girl?

Engine should be fine, trans? reverser? I will do a service and fluid swap on everything this fall.

Any thoughts or ideas good or bad will be greatly appreciated.

What are the loading and unloading conditions? Can you take one track off and get it on with help from the 550G you are taking its place with? Winch or cable and snatch block helping side with no track? Know any one with an old 350 regular pad track laying around? One track should narrow you by more than 2". Remove the wide pads on one side and run on the chain, sounds like you plan on replacing those. Just a couple thoughts.

The conditions are good if the dozer is able to drive, I like your idea of swapping the track out. Actually, I do have one at the house I could send down on the barge and swap it out pretty quickly. It would be very difficult to load missing a track, I don't think the fella with the barge would even consider that.

Having tracked a 450c track loader about 5 miles on the grass edge of a road (and back at the end of the day) with a couple of frozen track segments, I can guarantee that your back and neck will hate you for the next few days following your 30 mile trek. Lots of Aleve and rum and cokes helped me. If you can get a narrow track for 1 side so it will fit on the barge you will be better off.

A friend was asking me to be on the lookout for track rollers for a 350C wide track. I thought he said it was in Nelson Lagoon. I guess there are probably lots of 350C wide tracks in Alaska.

I was very lucky and the stars aligned for me this time, there is a barge coming down my way this Thursday that is wide enough to fit my dozer on. Its going to cost me $1000 for the backhaul to get it up to the road system.

I am almost positive I am going to take the wide track kit off my 350C, I will be installing a near new undercarriage with the narrow pads when I get this home. I would be interested in selling the entire wide pad kit that would include everything needed to convert a narrow pad to a wide pad.

I plan on using my dozer around my house on small projects here and there, so the wide pads are a waste for me. The chains, sprockets and idlers are shot on mine currently.
