JD 450 tune up (Euro Market)
Re: JD 450 tune up (Euro Market)
Check the tag the arrow points at, it may be your tractor serial number.
Post all the dimensions of your hydraulic filter, it may be one of the regularly used filter. The spin on (T19044) is a common JD filter for their engines as well as the transmission and some other systems like winches.

Great spot! I'll check it out when I run out to the farm over the weekend.
I already ordered the hydraulic filter. Part# AT45422. We'll see if that fits.

Holes in the boom are likely for the ejector bucket option.

Could you elaborate a bit more on this? I haven't heard of it before.

There was an ejector option that used mechanical linkage to eject sticky dirt from the bucket.

Interesting. This machine seems fairly optioned out/loaded. It has a backhoe thats on a slide, cab with heat + windshield wiper and looks like it had a 4 in 1 bucket.

Filters and orings showed up this evening. Just need to get fluids and a manual then I can complete the service.
Have any of you dealt with this group before for manuals? Thinking about getting this one:

I would go right to John Deere if I had your machine. There site for construction equipment manuals has a technical (service) manual, parts catalog, and an operator's manual for the 450A. Each has a John Deere publication number. It may be the right one, but I do not see the site, you posted, giving the JD publication number for the publication they are offering, so no way to verify what manual it is a copy of. Here is a link to the JD construction and forestry bookstore. I did the search for 450A and if you scroll down the list, past the skidders, you will see the 450A manuals, with the publication numbers. https://www.johndeeretechinfo.com/searc ... A&pattr=p0
On the home page for the JD site there is a toll free number to call for assistance of you want to confirm it is right for your machine. I expect they will need the serial number, hopefully it is on that tag.
Lavoy would be the other source I trust on this. If he said he can get the right manuals, I would trust him.

Re: JD 450 tune up (Euro Market)
Thanks, I hope to get that tag number later this week. Work has been crazy and I havent been able to get to the barn for a few days.
I also contacted that farm manual website to see about the publication number.
Update: They said its TM4241 TM4242
John Deere site says tech manual is: TM4241 TM4242_IP
Now to decide

Finally started working on the crawler today. Trammed it from the barn to the house and found I really need to tighten the cab up. It rattles at an unbearable decibel level.
Anyway I checked that tag by the battery.

Good thing I started going through this thing. I found out someone had removed the air filter and never replaced it!! (Also I had to pull the hood to access the filter)
Anyone have one of these mufflers for cheap? Mine has a hole rusted in it.

Re: JD 450 tune up (Euro Market)
Good, you now have the serial number for the crawler. Your dealer should be able to date it with that. As for the manual, If you ask JD Technical I think the suffix usually has to do with the revision of the manual, In this case it might have to do with the fact that TM4241 TM4242- IP has two languages in one manual. TM4241 is in French and TM4242 is in English, so IP might mean International printing? The manual from Farm Manuals might be the same, your decision, lucky you.
I just checked on line and the parts catalog JD Technical shows for your machine (PC4119) doesn't come up in a search of the JD parts Catalogs. So you might want to purchase one of those as well. I expect there are differences between yours and a 450 or 450B in some areas. And you should get an Operator's Manual as well. Most of the lube, service intervals and normal service info you will need will be in the Operator's Manual and may not be in the Technical Manual.

Re: JD 450 tune up (Euro Market)
I ended up purchasing some manuals from the link I posted. The duplicate in French is annoying to deal with but other then that, so far so good. Tech, parts and operators.
The manual specified the type of loader brace to use during service or to use (2) 24" pieces of 4"x4" steel angle. I had some laying around so thats what I used. Safety first with this old thing. It intimidates me to a healthy extent I think.
I've decided to bite the bullet and replace the transmission fluid (8 gal.) with the J20C Hy-Gard. However; I'm not sure I can justify the cash outlay for the final drives (3.5 gal.) and steering clutches (7 gal.). I was thinking about going with the Tractor Supply premium fluid that says its recommended for J20C specs. That's what I'm going to use for the hydraulic system. Any thoughts on using that fluid for the steering/drives?
For reference the hy-gard is nearly double the price.
Also my fuel cap (edited for Jim haha) isnt vented (anyone have one?) and I have no idea what yhe barbed fitting on the filter housing goes to. Ideas? I thought maybe the restriction alert pop on the dash?

Re: JD 450 tune up (Euro Market)
Yes, the barbed fitting on the air cleaner engine side is for a hose to the restriction indicator.
It looks like your fuel (you have diesel fuel, not gas ) cap thread onto to the neck? Is that correct? Your threads may be metric. The US 450s thread on but are shaped a bit different. The US 450s have a vent in the tank, the caps are not vented. Show a picture of your tank looking in the filler neck with the cap off, we may be able to spot the vent tube, if it is similar to the US ones.
The TSC premium UTHF meeting J20C will work in place of Hy-Gard. Before you dump oil in the steering clutches be sure they are wet clutches. The US 450s, and most of the 450Bs, are dry clutches. Oil will ruin dry clutches.

Re: JD 450 tune up (Euro Market)
Diesel!? No wonder it wont run now haha. I fixed the wording in my previous post. I took a closer look and no vent line. It wouldnt surprise me if the po replaced it with the wrong one. There are all kinds of rigged repairs on this thing.
Also I havent figured out if they are wet or dry clutches yet. The manual says wet, but the plugs arent in the same place the manual shows either, so not sure whats going on there.
I went to pull the hydraulic pick up filter and found it to be disintegrating. So I'll be ordering a new one since i have the tank drained and cleaned.
I also noticed this today...

Re: JD 450 tune up (Euro Market)
We need to see inside that fuel tank filler neck to see if the vent is in there, like the U.S. 450s.
