Rubber hose from radiator to reverser

Post by abdiver » Sun Nov 01, 2020 1:41 pm

I am looking for the correct replacement hose for my 1981 JD 350C Dozer, the original hose is a GATES 8 RLB ½ INCH 2 BRAID MADE IN USA. The JD dealer parts guy said the original hoses are no longer available and for me to use a straight hose to replace it. He gave me a GATES EB 4230T ½ INCH straight hose. The application for the hose is to transport the (hot/warm?) hydraulic fluid from the tractors reverser to the bottom radiator tank for cooling the hydraulic fluid.
The hoses are attached (secured) to the radiator and steel line with worm clamps (So I would assume pressure is not very great. But will the replacement hose given to me (by the JD dealership is a GATES EB 4230T ½ INCH ( .12 . 5mm) MADE IN USA GL 11/05/15 14 : 38 : 50 X1.) Stand up to this application ? To me it appears this EB 4230T is meant for water and not Hyd fluids? Please advise and I feel the over the counter parts man gave me the incorrect hose to replace the original GATES 8 RLB ½ INCH 2 BRAID hose. Thanks Bill T

Sorry I forgot to state I am trying to beat the rain so need to get my 350C operating ASAP. I would hate to have to remover the Hardnose and radiator to replace the hoses again if the fail because they are the wrong ones for this application.

Hi,

I think using that hose would be fine.

Do you have the JD part number from the purchase of the hose? The parts catalog calls for making those from TY22327 bulk hose. It appears TY22327 now subs to TY22562 (part number change may have been due to a supplier change). I used to be able to see the specs on the hose but since JD made some changes to their system in July, that went away. I have some TY22563 (3/4") hose for another JD oil line application application and it is Parker 611-Ht series. If you ask, the dealer should be able to give you the specs and application info for the hose you have.

Usually if a part or in this case a connecting oil line has changed or is no longer available, the parts guy will see in his listing what Deere recommends for a replacement. If the parts guy you had was worth his salt then he should have sold you what replaced that line. I have used about everything imaginable on those lines as long as it was oil rated and could stand low pressure oil and a bit of heat.

I think the parts manager assumed at the time all I needed was a 1/2 water hose. TI contacted Gates Corp, got this reply this morning from Gates RLB is and older cancelled hose series that has been replaced by the current “RLA” hose below suitable for an oil return line. Part 3284-4032, 8RLA x25 foot length.

I found that O'Reilly stocks it, I will just grab it there and get the Reverser filter and gasket at JD. Thanks Bill T

Glad you got an answer and some hose. That is why I use the JD part numbers when working with the dealer parts people. What you find on a hose for Identification is adapt to be out of date after a few years (as you found out from Gates) and the dealer parts people don't work with what is on the hose, unless it is a JD part number. Like you did, a hydraulic shop will look at the hose manufacturer's info and cross it to what they sell. JD changes vendors they buy hose from, so the markings change. It doesn't sound like he looked it up to get the JD part number, just gave you a hose based on his interpretation of your description. Here is a link to the 350C on line Parts Catalog, if you don't have it, it may help in the future. I generally look up the parts I need. If I am not sure I have it right, I print the page, and take it in hand for the parts person to and see to confirm I have it right or correct my choice if wrong.
