John Deere 350 adjustment

Post by CerescoMG » Mon Jan 01, 2007 12:11 pm

I finished cleaning up my final and getting it reinstalled. I follwed the service manual to the T but have a problem. When the crawler is going forward and you pull on the steering arm it turns a little then stops the dozer till you release the handle. Do I have the brake band to tight? Or another adjustment out of whack.
Thanks

Larry

If the dozer stops moving when you actuate one steering clutch, that means the opposite clutch is bad. I am assuming that the engine clutch or reverser is not just slipping.

Lavoy is right.
The way I check is to lift off the seat, straight down is a plate w/4 bolts. remove the plate and very carefully operate the dozer. You will see the ring gear spinning as the machine moves.
When you pull back the steering lever, and the machine stops moving, if the ring gear stops, its the main clutch, if the ring gear is spinning, the steering clutches are out.
I do this just off idle, you don't want too many rpms.
