Help identify this 550 dozer

Post by k2man » Wed Dec 30, 2020 5:13 pm

A friend loaned me his JD 550 dozer. I want to do an oil change, filters and some repairs. I’d like to buy a repair manual, but want to be sure I get the right one. I’ve looked for a data plate on the frame, but I haven’t found one. I do have the engine data plate - I shows TYPE 427 TT 01 and a serial number of 462708. Image

I can’t figure out how to post photos

Welcome.

The serial number/product identification number should be on the front panel of the battery box, right where you would see it as you get on the left side of the machine. The machine serial number is key, not the engine serial number (and there is no cross reference between those numbers).

The Operator's Manual is John Deere publication OMT70877. Technical Manual is JD# TM1108. This link should take you to the on line Parts Catalog (PC1437). [url]https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/nav ... ment/60636 [url].

This site has a dedicated picture server. You can read about it on the Messageboard Q&A and Annoncements. Or you can use a third party hosting site, you can't upload directly from a computer or phone.

Thanks Jim! I’ll look for the data plate there. And I’ll read the info on the photo server. I appreciate your help.
