Question about 450C rollers

Post by puzlrock » Sun Apr 11, 2021 1:10 pm

Hello,
Well, as I work through this 1977 450C dozer I am finding new problems, one roller bad and needs to be replaced, the rest I wonder if they need lubing.
All of them have a 5/16 square plug in them that is very tight. Do I need to get the plug out to service them? They don't look like the pictures in my manual.
Appreciate your help!
Don

Your rollers are most likely oil lubricated rollers. So unless you see an obvious leak they don't normally need service. If you do see evidence of a leak then it is junk and needs replaced. The reason they don't look like the ones in the book is because the original rollers have been replaced at some point.

Thanks Leonard,
I wondered if that was the case with the rollers.
I am currently trying to remove the rock guards and replace the left rear roller.
Had to order some special tools that will be here Friday, I hope.
Thank You
