Power steering boosters
I just rebuilt the power steering boosters on my straight 450 but there's no power assist that I can tell. I think the pump is ok because I can see fluid flowing in the reservoir. There is also some binding in on lever. I have the 2064 manual but it doesn't include section 145 which includes the rebuild and adjustment procedure. I found a 450B manual online and it says to install the mounting bracket with two shims under each rear boss of the mounting bracket then attach the yokes then pry up the front of the mounting bracket and insert as many shims as possible under the front bosses. There were no shims under the mounting bracket when I removed it. The manual lists a shim but does not say how many are required. the picture looks more like a spacer than a shim. Has any one had the mounting bracket off and seen these shims? I'm wondering if this could have something to do with the binding.

Re: Power steering boosters
Banjo, you have the model that uses man-power steering. Hope all is well with you.

Have you had any luck getting the boosters working yet?

Re: Power steering boosters
Got the boosters back out yesterday, one was leaking and I found that one of the seals was twisted in it's groove. Another thing I found was a kink in a hose I had used to replace a section of the steel line that runs from the power steering pump to the boosters. The original steel line had rubbed a hole thru it so I cut a section out and replaced it with a section of rubber hydraulic hose. It was a 90 degree section and the tight turn apparently limited the flow. Fixed that and I'm gonna order a new seal tomorrow, put it back together and try again. Could always use some help Randy but I can barely fit in there to work on this thing and two sure can't, but another set of eyes might see something that I don't and just having someone hand me tools would be nice. I get mighty tired of getting up and down off this thing. Hope to jump back on it as soon a I can get a new seal.
