I put 4 quarts of Rotella 15 - 40 in the reverser by mistake will it hurt anything other than being thicker? I have not cranked it as of yet but it is in the way

I will say the 450E Operator's Manual allows SAE15W40 engine oil meeting API Service CD/SC (MIL-L-2104C), CC/SC, or MIL-L-46152 and TO2 oil test (for -4 F to 122F). Hy-Gard is recommended. I expect they will mix with no issues, but I am not guaranteeing that.
Your call on this. It is likely is better for it than the "yellow bucket", so called 303, people have been using in them, which is not anywhere near the old John Deere 303, other than the name.

Engine oil has detergents. Hydraulic oil does not. It has anti foaming agents. I would change it out. If the engine oil foams, your hyd pressure will drop.
In other words it isn't the oil part, it's the different additives.

I just had this debate about the additives and anti foaming agents of hydraulic fluid with someone. Many skid steers (including my 329d) say to run 15/40 motor oil in the hydraulics. My 2000 LS 180 I just sold says the same thing , use 15/40. I just do not understand the thinking of the engineers on this point. I typically just change out the engine oil and run a hydraulic/transmission oil from a local oil distributor. DynaPlex 21 Track Guard.
As far as the question for 4 quarts, I'd change it out. If you had 22 gallons in there it would be a harder sell for me to replace it.

I'm going to run it a bit read detergent put in a non-detergent environment tends to knock sludge loose.
Ordered filter today will dump all 3 gal oil and change filter add hyd oil after a few hours or sooner if an issue develops will stay close to shop till change is made.

To be clear when you say Hydraulic oil. I hope you mean Universal Transmission Hydraulic Fluid. John Deere recommends Hy-Gard. If you use another UTHF it should have that it meets the John Deere JDM J20C spec. Do not use any of the 303 oils available now. The original JD 303 contained sperm whale oil which is no longer available so JD 303 can not be reproduced.

The detergent is to grab the combustion byproducts. The sludge is those byproducts building up when non detergent oil is used. In an engine. You don't get combustion byproducts in a reverser. But the hydraulics spray oil under far greater pressure and so the need for anti-foaming additives rather than detergent. If the oil foams, the ability of the oil to transmit power is reduced.
This is why the engineers at the lubricant makers do what they do. Engineer their products by application.
