Fuel Priming

Post by RTaylor » Sun Jul 18, 2021 7:34 am

I had to install a new starter, removed the filter housing, changed the filters, would not prime so I installed a different but new Electric fuel pump, and cannot get fuel to flow through the bleeder screws on top of the filter housing. I removed the screws filled the filters but she will run for 30 seconds and stop. If I loosen the input fuel line going into the Filters I get lots of fuel. I am baffled!

When I bought the old girl a couple years ago she had a slight miss which I felt was fuel related that is why I added the electric pump to augment the original geared pump.

Any suggestions at this point would be appreciated.

What machine do you have? Different machines may require different answers.

I took a few minutes and located your first post where you said you have a 450B. Helps if you include that info; and posts for 350/450 and later machines should on the Late Models Board (looks like Lavoy moved this after I posted before). If 450B is right, the answer below may solve your problem, if it is not a 450B please let us know what it is.

Did you by chance use WIX 33166, NAPA 3166 filters, or similar filters having an outlet slot around the top rim of them instead of holes in the top? If so the top seal gasket rings may have found their way into the slot, that is a common problem and the symptoms are like you describe.

Thanks, that is probably the issue. I will try it today and let you know.

That was exactly the issue! Knowledge is a marvellous thing! I had even called a local Dealer and that must not have occurred to him. I will post the Model next time! After 4 days of aggravation I can't thank you enough! :D

Glad it was that simple and no cost beyond the aggravation. That happens a lot with those filters as it looks like a gasket would fit there.

These folks are sharp. I have a later model 450G, most posts cover earlier models, but I just read everything here for fun and knowledge!
