New to the group. I’ve got I believe a 2001 455G track loader. A few weeks ago I broke the universal joint between the hydraulic pump and transmission AND the transmission input shaft. The shaft broke off just inside the transmission where the outside snap ring was.
Does anyone know if this shaft can be replaced without opening the transmission? Thank you.

Re: 2001 455G Transmission input shaft
Welcome to the board. With a 450G you are on the new end of most equipment discussed here.
Do you have the technical manual set (TM1403 and TM1404) for your machine? There may be info on doing this in them.
Looking at the on-line parts catalog, I did find a short shaft in the transverse case, called out as "TRANSMISSION INPUT" , and it is shown out the front of the case (for what its worth). It has splines for the U-joint yoke and appears to have splines on the other end I expect mate with the splined coupling which is bolted on the forward/reverse clutch shaft. Since the transmission pulls out the rear of the transverse case on these, I am guessing the shaft in the transverse case gets serviced in place. The question would be how much you have to remove from the middle to get it out. The manuals may have a procedure in them. Here is a link to the page in the parts catalog and note there is a serial number break where the part number of the shaft changes.

Re: 2001 455G Transmission input shaft
Thank you very much Jim. I’m not the most mechanical man alive. I’m pretty much just good at breaking stuff but I am going to give it a try. Thanks again
