Pulling power 450c
Pulling power 450c
Has anyone pulled another larger dozer with a 450c?
Re: Pulling power 450c
It is possible, however there are many variables that come into play as to whether or not a 450C would pull a larger dozer in any given case. Are you looking to pull one or just asking in general? If you are looking at pulling one tell all the specifics about the dozer and terrain. If just asking in general, my answer is maybe.
Re: Pulling power 450c
It is a cat D7 or D6. It hasn't ran in 20 years or so. And haven't gone to look at it in several years. would be pulled about about 4 miles. Road is flat, dirt with a couple of gradual embankments to go up and down. Of course the cat has the blade down, and would have to bleed off hydraulics and lift.
Re: Pulling power 450c
IMO - it will depend if the track roll. The 450 will pull that tractor only if the tracks roll. Keep us posted
Re: Pulling power 450c
14000 pound 450C pulling 35000+/- pounds. On dead flat maybe but I doubt you would be successful on any inclines or irregularities
Re: Pulling power 450c
On the flat with free rolling tracks on the CAT probably, if the 450C tracks can bite in and not slip, the the CAT tracks don't plow in. However 4 miles and uphill in places, I don't think you will have great success.

Re: Pulling power 450c
I have used a 450 to drag a non another 450 that had locked up tracks and it did it no problem but it was only 40' or so. I sure wouldn't want to be the guy having to pull a D7 4 miles BUT if I had to do it, I would be finding a D8, 500 Egyptians or a few of those giants from Game of Thrones to do it .
I realize this job has likely been done already, let's hear the story on how it all played out!

If a 450C dozer with single grousers you would have a better chance than a 450C loader with triple grousers.
Re: Pulling power 450c
I agree with B Town, if the tracks are free and the blade is up, you'll move it assuming it's not buried to the belly pan where it sits. My guess is that a 450 can exert a pull of 12k lb or better and even if the Cat weighs 30k lb, it doesn't take a 30k pull to move it. Let us know how you do with it.
