JD350-C running issues

I just bought a 1978 350C with a 6-way blade. I bought it with the understanding that it needed a lift pump. I replaced the lift pump as well as the fuel filter. The engine would only run a few seconds and die off. I decided to change the solenoid in the injection pump. I did this today, at first the engine ran for several minutes but then died. I have good fuel flow to the pump and from the return line. Now I'm back to the original problem it starts for a few seconds and shuts off. I tried running without the fuel cap to address a venting issue but have the same results. I'm not a gear head so bear with me but try to do basic repairs and maintenance on my own.
All ideas will be appreciated.

Sounds like you may have an injection pump problem. Search “mouse turds” on this site.
