How to bleed air from a 350c/ or fuel problems
Re: How to bleed air from a 350c/ or fuel problems
thanks-
i will check the return line for mouse poop and will check for a broken wire terminal and then jump it to the positive terminal to check-
thanks all for helping-
i plan on checking the machine this afternoon again.

Re: How to bleed air from a 350c/ or fuel problems
So I got to the machine today
Yep a wire right out of the top- didn’t see it before
Put test light on and machine fired right up- turned off after a min and light still on
Pulled the reurn line off the pump and started machine, fuel squirted out from pump making a mess but machine ran clear and dint turn off.
Cleaned check valve fitting and put back on- machine started and sounded clear then started to hesitate like before and then turned off
Removed check valve and machine ran clear and stayed running
With machine off fuel kinda built up and oozed out of top of pump with no line connected
I don’t really get the check valve on this as it doesn’t seem to be a check valve I am used to but now to search parts for where to get a new one from
Thanks all

The ball inside the check valve is clear. It can be had to see if it is really in there or not. The ones on my machines can be disassembled.

Re: How to bleed air from a 350c/ or fuel problems
The problem isn’t the check valve. The check valve is being plugged by little pieces of the dampener ring inside the injection pump.
After many years the dampener ring starts to disintegrate and the pieces plug the check valve.
The dampener ring will have to be replaced.

The black is what is left of the dampener ring. The white is the new ring before installing

Re: How to bleed air from a 350c/ or fuel problems
i tried to capture the fuel to see if i could find "mouse turds" but i couldnt see anything
i can see the clear ball of the check valve and it seemed to be stuck at first but i am unsure really.
after i ran it without and put back on i didnt see anything in it again?
where is the dampner ring actually at? does the pump come off and apart for this type of repair?
the check valve seemed backward to me as i thought it would allow fuel into pump and prevent it going up the return but i think i am backward in my thinking?

Re: How to bleed air from a 350c/ or fuel problems
Check valve is to keep pump full but not over-pressured. Have you confirmed the return line is clear all the way to the fuel tank?. Check vale let’s fuel leave the pump to prevent too much pressure, while keeping the pump full.
Re: How to bleed air from a 350c/ or fuel problems
The check valve allows excess fuel out of the injection pump to return to the fuel tank during operation. It also lets air out and prevents fuel or air coming back into the pump.
Another test, to determine if the problem is internal to the pump, is to loosen the two screws holding the small cover plate on the side of the injection pump body enough to let fuel leak out around the plate a bit. If the engine stays running correctly with the fuel leaking out, it is a sign the pellethane flex ring is breaking up and the pump needs repair. You can clean the side of the pump and carefully remove the cover plate with a clean rag below the opening, you may find the moose turds behind the plate. (No parts will fall out.)
If it needs repair, I highly recommend that the injection pump be sent to a shop specializing in that work. I have had some training on them, but I spend the money to have a pump shop do them up right. They will have the correct tooling to repair, test and calibrate it. Yes, you can buy parts. Yes, some people do their own pumps. However, without the right technical info, tools, and equipment, damage can be done which will cost more than sending it to a pump shop would have cost. And they don't have the equipment to calibrate and adjust after repair. Just my opinion, others will vary.

Re: How to bleed air from a 350c/ or fuel problems
If you go to Youtube and put "John deere dozer injector pump" in the search bar you will see a number of video's showing the issue and fix. Some good some not so good.
Make sure you have it timed before you remove it, manual will explain. If you try to repair yourself or have someone you know try, DON"T grab the body of the pump in a vise..... can not overstress this. Make something to mount the pump to. Or send it to someone who knows what they are doing as suggested by others.

Re: How to bleed air from a 350c/ or fuel problems
i did not test the return line back to the tank-
good catch, i will put some air to it this afternoon to see if its clear (i should see bubbles back at tank if it is i suppose)
thanks for the other checks at the plate and the explanation on the check valve-

Re: How to bleed air from a 350c/ or fuel problems
Well I took the return line off and blew it clear back to the tank
Started machine with line removed and check valve installed- machine started and sounded clear
Turned machine off and installed return line- started machine and it ran clear for awhile (4 min maybe) then turned off
put a rag under the pump and took the side plate off and got “mouse turds”
The gasket plate is coming apart - damn
now to find a pump repair place and check prices
thanks all

Awesome Always a good feeling when a engine goes from running bad to running good again.
