Engine clutch has oil on it

Post by pierce378 » Fri May 27, 2022 5:27 am

Good morning everyone!
I have a grave problem with my 450b crawler loader. Milky oil is in the bell housing of the engine clutch. I assume this is a dry clutch. So it won't move and the pto stops. Funny thing, I've never had to add engine oil or hydraulic oil (I only had it a year). Your thoughts? And is the engine hard to remove in this unit and can the engine crank seal be installed without removing the crank? Same with the transmission I put shaft seal?

Is the weep hole open in the bottom of the bell housing? If this is plugged for a long time, condensate will add up to a lot and it wouldn’t take only a little oil to cloud the water. Especially since you had said your levels have not changed and you have not added .

Drop the belly pan and look for the cotterpin at the bottom of the bellhousing, drain the fluid but don't refill. :D

If nothing is moving you may have another problem. I've had my bellhousing get oil in it and the only time I could tell is if I were pushing really hard. The clutch would slip and the HLR would lose pressure clutches would release load would come off HLR would pressurize the clutch pack again and the loader would lerch in whatever direction I was pushing.... hopefully you get the picture.

Sounds like the front seal is leaking on the HLR. Have since this a couple times. Milky HLR oil is common from either condensation or cracked transmission case. Hope it’s the first option.
