Hi JD enthusiasts
I have just joined the forum after inheriting my late father's 350B that hasn't been going for 6 years, so it's getting a bit of a birthday. I have the head off, pistons and liners out etc and have just purchased the new head gasket. On fitting it on the block, I notice that half of the galleries where water would flow from the block to the head are blocked off - there's never been an opening in the block, whereas the holes are present in the head. Have a look at the image of the block, attached. There is no hole on the block but holes are in the head that go nowhere.
Does anyone know why they would have done this? And, has anyone drilled them out as to maximize the flow of water from the block to the head?
Thanks in advance for any help. Much appreciated.
Cheers, Craig

Hello and welcome to the madness. Install the head gasket just like you found it. Don't drill out the holes and just make sure your block and head are clean and true. Everything looks normal in what I see in your picture.

Thanks for your reply. I'm hearing the same thing from other forums and the JD dealer in town
