550A Crawler Transmission Temp Sending Unit

Post by MpC2nd » Mon Jun 27, 2022 2:18 pm

Hello - I am new to the message board and have been working on and learning about heavy equipment for a couple of years. I have a 1984 550A crawler with a forestry ROPS and winch. The transmission temperature gauge wire is disconnected from the sending unit and I cannot find the sending unit. I have traced the disconnected wire from the gauge wire cluster (right side if sitting in seat) crossing over under the floor plates to the left side and down what appears to be the front of transmission case where I think the sending unit should be located towards the bottom. It is difficult to see or reach into that area. I have operator and service manuals and have seen the parts diagram, but can't figure out where it is. Does someone know where it is located and how to access it? Thank you.

Looking at the drawing in the parts catalog it is in the lower left front corner of the power shift housing. You may need to access it from underneath.
