85 350C reverser, trany and pinion parts ?

Post by Gearhead » Fri Jan 26, 2007 8:00 pm

I have a buddy who has an 86 350C. First his reverser went out then he sarted having problems with the tranny and/or the pinion. The question is how readily available are parts for this tractor? He has already been told that the pinion is no longer made and that the gears and bearings for the trans are also obsolete. He was quoted $14,000.00 for parts alone to rebuild it but that seems awful high. Got a Ouija board to help decide if it is destined to be a parts pile?

Sounds like a pretty substantial load of BS. Bearings are bearings, so I highly doubt that they are obsolete. I can belive that some gears are obsolete from Deere, but I have quite a few gears, shafts, and reverser parts available new for the 350.

I do believe you are correct Lavoy. Someone wants to make some money fast. There is a place up here that can get any one a person needs Kaman Bearing. Still cold at your place Lavoy -20 below here for the last three night with the wind even worse.

You can kind of see where this one was headed. "Sorry it's going to be so expensive to fix that old dozer of yours. I feel so bad about it, why don't I just give you the scrap metal value for it to take it off your hands." What a load!

Most of the reverser parts are still availible from JD. The pinion is availible from Murphy Tractor (they even have an Ebay store)

When I started to look for parts for the 450 E .I started at the JD industrial dealer and they gave me all the wrong part numbers[so I could not cross reference] and an outrageous price. With the stipulation that they may not even be able to find the parts . In two hours I had looked everything up at the local industrial wrecker and got it heading my direction .I guess what I am saying is that the big operations don't give a darned about you and your old dozer also I do believe that the dealerships hire the first kid that comes in the door and they don't have to give you a straight answer as long as they sell parts for the newer stuff .Parts are still easy enough to find for the 350S and will be for some time .45% of the parts in a 350 or 450 are available through your ag dealer for the green stuff You just have to know where to find it .Keep looking and don't be afraid to ask questions .If you need specks for the crown and pinion settings find a tec manual on the tractor .Good luck.Digitup.
