450d slips

Post by 431Dwayne » Sat Jan 28, 2023 5:27 pm

I bought this 450D and was told it was ran 3 gallons low on tranny fluid , when I changed filter up front then pulled screen filter out of side it was covered with rotten leaves. I cleaned it well and flush best I could without major disassembly. At first it pushed on a scale of 1-10 a 5 but it has slowly went to a 1 .it slips under any load . 1st thought clutches got hot from low fluid? But after seeing trash on screen I was wondering if might be another area to look or check? On flat ground blade up it will move forward and reverse in low 1 or 2 and will steer lt and rt perfectly while moving? I have service manual and technical manual also. Thanks

Hello 431Dwayne,

Because of the contamination you found initially, the 5 out 10 push dwindling to 1, I would suggest another change of the filter and a cleaning of the screen. Are you in a position to change out the entire trans fluid?

Even though this is an older machine, this site would consider your machine a “late model”. This topic may get more coverage in the “late model” section. Moderators may be able to move this thread.

Also, where are you and your machine located?

Best regards,
Bruce

Welcome to the Boards.

What did you put in it for fluid/oil?

I today pulled screen back aut and it was clean and put a new screw on filter up front. And filled with a j20 fluid. No change still slips

Clean screen. new filter, and new J20 (C?) UTHF rules those out as the problem. Have you done all the pressure checks and adjustments for the clutch and transmission in the order given in the 450D technical manual? That would be the next step to try to identify the problem, otherwise it is just guessing.
