3325 winch leaking from weep hole

Post by puzlrock » Sat Feb 18, 2023 6:57 pm

Evening all,
My 3325 winch squirts hydraulic oil about 30 feet out a small weep hole located below the center of the left quill when I engage the retrieve function.

It winds in slowly without power but leaks like a sieve. It spools fine

I have looked in my books and can't determine which seals and O-rings might be leaking.

It holds oil, but has never worked since I bought the dozer. I want to start skidding with it and need to repair the winch.
Thanks Don

Hello Sir.

The left side of the 3325 should be dry. The brake band is in there along with the brake hydraulic cylinder. The master clutch for the winch is inside the left case, also.

Here is the online parts for the brake-

It could be as simple as either the clutch or brake hose leaking. I have seen it happen. Best to pull the side cover and take a look, it is not a big job. It can be operated with the cover off to check for the leak. Pull enough cable out that you don't two block it checking the clutch circuit.

Thanks,
As soon as the weather clears up I will pull it apart, hope it is just a loose fitting.

Yes, we hope it something easy. I have concern about oil contamination of the brake. If you get the leak fixed the winch brake may not hold on a pull. I have read, seen and heard of lots of ways to try to rejuvenate a brake before simply replacing an oil contaminated brake band (which is the longest lasting best option, but $$$$$, also).
