350B reverser leak ?

Post by Slice155 » Wed Nov 22, 2023 9:10 am

74 350b. new to me still working out the bugs to use.

starts fine. when moving forward or backwards, i have a fluid leak underneath the reverser and out of the little vent hole on bottom of the transmission,

leaking from under reverser maybe from the small cover on the adjustment screw. thought it was tight enough. transmission has no other leak than when trying to engage forward or backwards. someone suggested front seal on reverser "? guess i dont see how it gets to the trans case...

open to all suggestions.

If it is leaking between the reverser and the transmission, then it will be a seal either from the reverser output shaft or the input shaft on the transmission. The area you are referring to is where the reverser and the transmission bolt together. The weep hole is actually in the rear of the reverser housing. Just an FYI... there is no way to get to those seals without pulling the reverser.

There is also a weep hole at the front of the reverser that is in the bell housing portion. This is where the engine bolts to the reverser. If your leak is coming from there then it will be a reverser pump seal or perhaps the sealing ring behind the reverser pump. But it sounds like yours is at the rear between the reverser and the transmission.

If it's coming from the small cover on the adjustment screw, maybe double-check the tightness, but also keep an eye on that front seal on the reverser like they suggested. Sometimes the culprit isn't obvious at first.
