Serial Number/ Engine overhaul

Hi, Where can I look on a 450c dozers to find the serial number since the plate is missing? Also does anyone know anybody around Southwest Va that can overhaul the engine on a 1979 JD 450c track loder? Thanks

As far as I know the tag on the front of the battery box is it. Some have said that some machines had the serial number stamped on the differential housing on the flat area at the rear of the cover. Some stamping in that area may be related to the setup of the ring and pinion, not the serial number.
