450 track alignment
JD 450 track loader. I noticed the right track is rubbing on the side of the front lift cyl. pin. It always seemed close, closer than the left, but recently has started touching it. I recently replaced the front cross member to track frame bolts. they were all pretty loose. When I did, I used a come-along underneath to pull the track frames tight against the inside of the cross member. ( I didn't want a space between the track frame and the inside of the inner bracket on the cross member). I looked around to see where or how I could adjust the track for more clearance . (move the front idler away from the machine). I noticed on the rear cross bar, the retainers in the slots on the outer ends of rear cross bar are quite worn. On one side (the left) someone ha put a steel spacer (looks like 1/2 in. plate) behind the retainer. I also noticed the inner ridge on the front idlers is worn much thinner than the outer , on both sides. Looking for a way to get more clearance between the front of the track and the machine, I noticed the rear cross bar is nor held solid to the machine. If I hit it with a sledge, it will move back and forth. A little. ( the clearance in the worn retainers). Basically all the suspension crap is quite worn. It is the old set-up with the bushings , although I did away with the bushings on the front cross bar and used washers to bolt it tight to the track frames. I fear it may be time to recycle the old girl. Most of the machine is in good shape, but the tracks seem to be getting to where they are self-destructing. (front idlers wearing on the inside, track rubbing the lift linkage on the bucket, and the left rear sprocket chafing on a lower roller) Any thoughts ? Or is it beyond fixing, time to park it out back for long term storage? thanks, matt
