Splitting Tracks JD450 Straight

So I have an early 70s jd 450 dozer that I need to rebuild the steering clutches on. I read on the forum that the way to identify the king track pin is to find the one with the dimple. I also read in my manual to find the one with the clip ring. I’ve not been able to find a clip ring and every pin on my machine has a dimple in the center. Am I overlooking the c clip ring or is every pin removable?

Not seeing your chains and going on you saying you can't find a clip and they all have dimples (you checked both sides of the chains, correct?), I am guessing they are not OEM chains and may have been replaced with a set that has no official master links. if so, you need to find someone with a track pin press to push a pin out for you to break the track.

Jim is correct in saying your tracks have been replaced at some point. What you have are called SALT rails or SALT tracks. They are a Lubricated chain system that will most likely have a master link instead of a master pin. Look for a link that will appear to be solid instead of looking like the other links that are open.

This link will have two mating half links. One half on each end of the rail. They are held together with long bolts that also hold the track pad on at this link. They will either be interlocking or will have a mating seriation that aligns the two halves together. Either way the link will appear as a solid link. Remove the bolts and pad and the tracks should separate.
