350b rookie update...
ok, got started today, took some time to get the track off, but once I got the master link keeper off, the pin came right out. I then took out 9 bolts out of round looking weight. Geez, almost smashed my foot when that baby fell off. The sproket was next, with some effort, it popped right off. Now Im sitting there looking at all the bolts on the final drive, I notice that there are two bolts at the very top, that seem to be blocked by a part of the frame, just under the hydralic tank. Seems like a good place to stop and get a few tips before I go on. Anyway is there a certain order of which bolts need to come out first? and then of course the two bolts at the very top? So far this is kinda fun!

mike, if u havent done it already make sure u remove the two bolts on the backside of the final drive. if u have all the bolts out it should slide out, but sometimes they come out hard. make sure to hold it level cause if u dont u will bend the throw out tube. u shouldnt have to rotate the final on yours cause u have the sprocket weight.

Hi,
I once had a JD350, but didn't need to take it apart other than one issue relating to the injector pump. So, I don't have the experience to tell you what steps to follow.
Now, I can tell you lots about a 420, which is the case for most of the people on the board. Not that that information will help you much.
I can tell you that the service manuals are worth having. They *do* have the steps necessary to do just about every job. They were written for the JD service shops to do just that.
I'd also say you need the parts manual as well, as they have not only the parts listings, but exploded view diagrams. I find that I often have to use both the service and parts manuals in tandem to get things done. Nothing like those diagrams to help one visualze how things are put together before one gets it apart!

350B Final
Hi Mike. It would be helpful if your machine was flat and not on a hill or in a ditch someware. You should make a big U shaped tool out of some 1/2" rod with 2 2 1/2" tangs beny up to slip into the front of the final. There are two holes in the front of the final to hammer this in. It will only help and give you something to lift final with.It also helps to have astrong back, when the final comes out you will need to maneover it out the back against frame rail. I ussually use my bucket loader attached to U tool to take weight off final to help slide it off brake band easier. If you havnt done so yet, Loosen brake band up. Under the seat there is a plate with 4 3/8" bolts holding it down. Remove this plate and loosen the big bolt pointing at you against the left side. This will loosen brake band and give you an idea of whats going on. You mentioned not seeing backside bolts on final. You need to look above skid pan, they are probably there, they all require a 15/16" socket to remove 3/4" drive will help. I had to heat mine with an Oxy Acetylene torch and rosebud tip. This made things alot easier.

Forgot to mention
The bottom rock pan only needs the back bolts removed to get accsess to back final bolts. Also as you slide final off machine, you will notice a splined shaft comming out with it. Just push it back in tranny to manuover final out. Check clutch housing "what the final was bolted to" for small cracks up high, these housings have a tendency to crack. This can be a leak spot for hydo fluide to get in housing.Thats bad. Be careful, the finals are heavy 300-400lbs. Keep us posted and we will try to help.
