I have seen literature references to a 450A, and I believe that it was not a domestic machine. Does the serial number tag have the place of manufacture on it? I wonder if it is a Mannheim tractor

lavoy, not sure if it does, i will check when the guy delivers it this weekend. everything looks factory, theres part numbers on the brackets for the pedals, and the sn tag is on the right hand tank. it also has a weird looking injector pump on it, its like 2 or 3 inches longer than the US ones.

My 350 dozer has regular tanks. It is build in Mannheim. But I don't know mutch from 450's.
If the serialnumber ends with a L then it was made in Mannheim (mine does).

Greetings from Europe

Those machines were made in the 1960s with a walk through deck for a backhoe mounted . The swivel is off of the bottom of the seat to turn it around and lock the other way . Very few were made like that the seat was 3 inches higher with the swivel on it . Lets see if it has a Robert Bosch injector system .Deere used a backhoe for a 401 industrial tractor unit and flat decked to swivel around and you are at the backhoe .Swivel back and you are at the crawler loader without getting off your seat . Great find look close for the hoe unit .Digitup.

Hi,

When I first saw these photos, I thought it was a backhoe unit. I remember a guy that dug farm ponds having a 450 loader/hoe which had tanks that looked like that.

However, I wasn't positive, so I said nothing. I mean, the thing is dozer, not a loader, and I never have seen a dozer/backhoe combination. The seat, too, reminded me of a seat for a hoe-equipped machine, but then, again, something didn't look qute right, so I was also not sure.

Of course, digitup spotted that the seat is missing something, and now it makes more sense to me. Still, I wonder if this was a loader convered to a dozer, or a dozer converted to have the backhoe and now the hoe is gone.

Where did you dig this one up, anyway? Or, was this test for the rest of us?? :P

hi stan, i dont think this one ever had a loader or hoe on it. i traded the guy my 450c for this one and some cash. he dumped 11k into the motor and steering clutches on it. kinda mad though, he forgot to tell me the 4 bolts holding the engine clutch housing to the transmission were broken off. now i gotta yank the motor to fix that. guess i needed another project :).

the serial number is 105898L, and it says made in Germany on the tag, so i guess its European.

Stan I never saw a dozer version till this unit .And as this is a dozer with this deck and German built then it is probably One of a kind .JD430C you got a great find there. Digitup.

thanks digitup, but i dont want it, just took it in trade in hopes of reselling it, but that wont happen till i replace the broken bolts in that clutch housing. i did look at the seat yesterday and it will swivel, just need to free up the handle and remove a few bolts. i did look at the blade mounting brackets and they are set up for the backhoe brackets, so maybe someone intended on putting a backhoe on it.

At one time it had a Backhoe meant for it.See if it has a larger pump kit on it the up grade was from 18 to 28 Gallons Per Minute in pump size. The backhoe unit was an odd build also just a bit different like the dozer unit .That is a hell of a find though .Digitup.
