350 or 450
350 or 450
I am still playing idea of getting a JD dozer.Only to be used on my propery. What is the wt difference between a 350 and 450 ? Also I would prefer a 6 way blade. My idea would be to buy one that may need a bit of work that is still usable while I bring up upto snuff. So by the time it is in top shape it will have a lot of new parts vs spending more money initially and having a totally used machine. An example would be if I had pins and bushings done and sprockets they would last me a lifetime.I would guess I may use it 100-200 hrs per year.I just cannot come up with the 15000 to buy a decent used machine.I was looking in the 8-10 thousand range.Any thoughts ????????

mike, i would go with a 450. after running a 450 i will never go back to a 350. its not much bigger than a 350, but it has a lot more power and the HLR transmission is nice. also i have a jd 450 that i am selling, the PO just spent 11k on the motor and steering clutches. has the 6way. if u are interested send me a pm. thanks

As a general rule a 450C dozer will outweigh a 350C dozer, with equivalent equipment, by about 3,000 to 4,000 lbs... (350C w/6310 blade= 10,400# vs. 450C w/6410 blade = 14,170#).
I have owned and run both 350C and 450C loaders and the 450 series is by far the better machine - the 350's, while being tough little machines, are underpowered.
Since you plan to do a track job on whatever you get anyway, the cost of undercarrige parts is pretty much the same with either model, so I would be looking for a 450C with worn out tracks.
Good luck,

The only advantage that a 350 has is weight and if you are looking for a unit that is easy to haul behind a3/4 tone truck then a 350 is the answer . If you want to go where a 450 wide track cant go get a 350 wide track .If you have dirt to push then it is a 450 .If you have all day then it is a 350 if that is all you have then it is a 350 .They are a good little machine but don't compare a 350 and a 450[ apples and oranges ]Two different machines.Digitup.
