450c serial number/dom

Post by reb » Sat Sep 01, 2007 8:09 am

Digitup,
The tag is missing on my 450C crawler but stamped underneath is 281121 . What year would that have been made? Thanks, Ross

That is a 1977 if the # is correct. My 450B had the serial # plate wiped off completely.I remember that I did it pushing the penning out of a still smoldering burnt out pig barn . It was a hell of a job but when I got done I noticed that I wiped off the plate. And when it went into the dealer for service the only time that it did go to the dealer was for a up date kit .It came back with the serial#stamped into the front of the left control panel. John Deere did not like them out there without a serial#.Even today you can order a s/n plate but it costs about 80 bucks now .Digitup.

Hey Digitup-

Since we are talking about serial numbers, I had a few questions to throw out there:

1) When people ask about the year for a serial number, is there a central location to find these or are you using an operator's or parts manual to give those? I have found some of the serial number ranges for some of the older machines online (such as the Johnny Popper website) but not for newer machines.

2) I asked this on another post, but is it correct that Deere will only assign a new serial number plate if you have the original serial number? My serial number plate was on the original motor (early 2010) which was replaced before I bought it.

Thanks in advance-

I guess that I did buy that unit from that dealer new so they just stamped it .I never even asked and they never said anything .I mentioned it to the service manager after and he said Deere did not like machines without a serial number on them so this was free of charge. Now we cant order parts without a serial number in this neck of the woods .One of my 550Gs broke down in Vancouver BC and since I bought it in Waterloo ON they did a complete background check on me and the 550G its self before ordering parts .That was in 98 and it is even worse today .Digitup.

To answer the second question first I got a Deere salesman's little black book don't ask for a copy I am not suppose to have it . So no copies of the book that I don't have are avalible .It only goes from 350-450s to the 450js though so it wont back to the good old stuff .Digitup.

Digitup, I won't ask for something you don't have ;)

I find it a little funny that the serial number ranges have to be such a big secret with Deere.
