straight JD 350 tranny dipstick!

Post by ChrisMis » Sun Nov 04, 2007 1:56 pm

I hate to sound like a dipstick myself, but I can't find the one in my '65 straight 350. Last winter I had a freeze up that I think is because I have H2O in the tranny. I want to check before I change but can't find the stick. It's a 4 speed w/ reverse, not a reverser. Can anyone help me?

should be a round tube on the top left side of the transmission itself. pretty close to the hourmeter. Theres a cutout in the floor to get to it

Okay, I took the entire floor plates out and can't find a dipstick. there was a cutout in the floor next to the hour meter but it was a blank spot on the tranny. Could this be a case where I need to take a bolt out and just check level by sight? Again, any more input would be appreciated.

I can't thank you enough for that picture! Found it! It looked to bethe stop post to the engage lever to the winch in the back. Scraped a bit of paint and there was the seam right before my eyes.
Now the fluid is as milky as can be so it needs to get out of there. When I drain, how do I get most of it out of there? I read that you can put fuel in to help but do I do this before or after I drain? Do I try and run it churning the mix around to get more out or will that do damage?
You all have been so much help I thought I'd keep throwing questions at you.

Try to flush out as much as you can just using good clean oil after you drain the cruddy stuff out. Fuel probably wouldnt hurt anything just to flush the machine but i wouldnt run the machine with the fuel mix. Plus then you have to flush the fuel out with clean oil anyway.

I would try letting trans drain for 2-3 days and let everything drain out that can and then refil with clean oil. CHeck the oil after running for a while and then change it again if you find it looks milky again. The next thing you really need to figure out is how so much water got in the trans in the first place.
