JD 450 c track pads

Post by Charlie » Sat Nov 24, 2007 5:10 pm

Hi
Has anyone welded 3/4 or 1 "rebar onto the track pads to make them more aggressive. Anyone know what a set of used or new pads cost?

Also where could I obtain used counter weights, or should i just try and build something?

I have learned a ton of stuff since I located this site. Tahnks for all the replies, help and to those that put the site together.

Charlie.

Hi
trying to load a pic of my crawler from my computer file and I just can't seem to get it to work? I guess I'm not as smart as a fifth grader. Can someone help?

Charlie,
I have some OEM JD counterweights I would sell.Problem is,I live a million miles from you.Keep looking, you should find some around your erea. You could also make some.I don't think you can get the weight/size ratio the same as a JD weight. Those suckers are heavy  .Itook 5 plates off my 1010 when I put a winch on.I think they are close to 200lbs a plate??? You can buy regular grouser stock in various heights to re-grouser you pads, I have 100' of 1 5/8" on hand I think. Send me an e-mail sometime with what pads you have or want new, and I will check and get back to you.

Regular grouser stock is the best way to go as it has a good life span with the right welding and rod used . We have some 5 inch on the drainage plows and it stands up better than regular steel I don't recommend much more than 1/4 inch on a small dozer .We tend to go a bit extreme to get traction some times on the drainage plows though .If you don't do this on your drainage plow and you hit a plowed field you just roll on the sods or turned dirt under the tractor unit .Jack up the tractor on one side and weld one piece at a time to the track grouser at the front and back keep welding them on when they get to the other end weld the other side as the strongest weld is with gravity [When I weld any way !] I always use my big portable unit as my little shop welder just doesn't do a deep weld and you need a good deep weld for this .Digitup.

Hi Charlie-

Check out your other post about this for my response- there is a crawler boneyard in MO that might be able to help you with counterweights.
(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment
