Tank Heater for a 350
Need to tap
Hello, have a question for jdemaris, I have the housing that needs to be drilled and tap, should it be 1/4, or 3/8, which will work better? Thanks, Dan
Re: Need to tap
I doubt it will make any difference in how it works. I tend to drill it to whatever the size of hose-adaptor is that comes with the heater. Some come with 1/4" tapered pipe, and some 3/8" tapered pipe. If your heater did not come with the metal pipethread - to-hose nipple adapters - you can order them from NAPA.GraderDan wrote:Hello, have a question for jdemaris, I have the housing that needs to be drilled and tap, should it be 1/4, or 3/8, which will work better? Also, I see it like this. If the thermostat housing does not have any raised-blank area that is reinforced and meant to be drilled - I drill and tap for 3/8" pipe. But. . . some older housings are thin and don't have that extra-thick section. With those, I use 1/4" pipe simply because I don't want to weaken the housing.
The housings that come predrilled and tapped from Deere are 3/8".
