JD 450C Powershift ?

Post by Leland » Mon Feb 04, 2008 8:59 pm

I found a JD 450C 50 miles from home for $17,000.00. I am going to looks at it Tues.

The Man that has it said he getting to old to use it. He was in the dozer business with bigger dozer for 50 years. He said it has a 70 % UC.

Was there more than 1 type transmission available on them?
He said its a Power Shift.
Is this power shift like the JD 4020 farm tractors had?

How do you work on the torque converter & Transmission?

Do you have to pull the engine to work on them?

I have worked on PS on my bigger Komatsu D65E.

Thanks,
Leland

The power shift was the h-l-n-r those four speed tranys behind the power shift were known as a 4speed collar shift .But over all the machines were known as a direct drive with the clutch that was in them .Digitup.

JD 450 C Frame ? Finally went to look at the Dozer

Post by Leland » Wed Feb 20, 2008 6:51 pm

I need Help on JD 450C Frame Problem!

When I finally got to go look at the JD 450C all looked good except the Main frame rails on both sided.

Both sided have been welded at the rear main attach point.

The right side has some bolts missing and the frame has started to crack again from the top.

Is this a common problem with the JD 450C?
What needs to be done to fix this problem?
How much do you think the man should be willing to lower
the price to allow for repair cost in parts? ( Labor my own would be free )

450C with broken side frames is very uncommon Be sure to look at front cross member where it bolts to bellhousing and side frames --pull floor plates so you can see if bell is broke or cracked these frams will not hold if there are welded are you sure its a C and not a B B's broke side frames almost before you could get them out of show room--check all bolts through side frames into bellhousing this is where the problem starts
worked for deere through the trouble years have fun Randy

Frame Crack

Post by Leland » Wed Feb 20, 2008 8:48 pm

Randy,

The repair welds and the crack on the right side are way in the back at the flat flange that welded to the c frame channel. The bolt that is missing that I could see was the one missing in the mounting flange.
