PTO or Winch drive???

Post by Bruski » Thu Feb 14, 2008 11:42 am

Hi again guy's,
Seems like I am the only one with questions this week. I have a parts manual for my 350 and it shows a different set up for a PTO and and winch drive. I thought that they were the same. I want to modify and attach a small backhoe I have to fit the crawler. Does anyone know if a winch drive will drive a 540 PTO??
Thanks again for all the help.
Bruski

Wench drives run at 1000 RPM thus the fine spline at wench connection
Farm equipment made to run at 1000 RPM will hook right up.540 RPM shafts have a lot courser spline and will not hook up buy equipment made to run at 1000 RPM I don't know if that helped ya or not have fun Randy

It is a 1000 rpm spline but the PTO runs at around 800 rpm on a 350 and closer to 900 rpm on a 450-550 machine .Before we had many 4x4 tractors around or selfpropeled harvesters When it was wet in the fall of 84 the 550 was new.We had over 20 inches of rain one month and the fields were just slopin .I ran a old 1 row corn head JD forage harvester with my 550 but it wae a bit under powered so I gave it a bit more fuel screw on the injecter pump.I cranked it till it didn't run nice then I backed off a bit The 550 would pull the harvester and the 450B would pull the forage wagons .The weak spot was the wagon reach beam when you got deep enough in the mud .With the 550 in low gear and the 450 in the next gear up we would chain the wagons from the front to the back reach when they got in too deap or you would have the wagon pulled in two. I know you could run the 550 wide open before the harvester ran sweet. It is no wheres near 1000 rpm any way .Digitup.
