550A Pinion shaft

I finaly found a pinion shaft,does anyone know why JD used bearings in some shafts,and bushings in others?My origonal shaft has a bearing,the one I found has a buishing what is the difference?

are you talking about ring and pinion in rear end of crawler?? there is no way a pinion shaft would last with just a bushing also ring and pinion are matched set and one can't be changed with out the other have fun Randy

NO,the final drive shaft in a 550A wide track T81196 shaft,some have a bearing some a bushing.The orignal that was in mine has a bearing the one I found has a bushing.Does it make a difference?

I have never run into one like that--it looks as thow the bearing rides on the bushing I sniped a pic out of parts book if it will help it looks like it should work http://picasaweb.google.com/yasshol/550PinionShaft
