I come across many like that. HL-R gets worn out - and they get sent to auction while they still work OK cold. I was offered a 450 dozer with a 6 way blade last month for $2500 and passed it up. Pushed great until warm - then it slowed down and get to a point where it wouldn't move in forward low, high, or reverse. Also, once that hot - the engine oil pressure would drop to near zero - another thing typical of worn 450s (worn out engine balancing shafts). This particular machine went to auction, got sold for $2800. Then a week later the guy that bought it at the auction sold it to the local tractor salvage yard for $1500.

The HL-R is very expensive to fix. If you do it yourself, you can scrounge around a bit for parts. If you have a dealer do it, it can easily cost over $4000. As to the engine - the four cylinder engines get worn balancing shafts - and that too can cost a lot of money to fix and usually requires removing the engine - unless you find a way to eliminate them and block off the oil-pressure holes. Deere sold some of those engines new with the shafts missing - and they vibrated so bad at low RPMs the mufflers would crack.

Jdemaris is right. We've had a lot of them come in for repairs that way. They can be fixed but be prepared to spend a few bucks. Steve.
