350 steering clutch snap ring

Post by CRFARM » Thu Nov 27, 2008 9:21 pm

I am putting new a new clutch in a 350 and it seams like you need to put a clutch disk behind the snap ring then the rest of the plates and disk on. Is this rite? It seems that if you put all the clutch disk and plates on after the snap ring, the first disk doesn,t make contact with the break drum and the preasure on the clutches are on the snap ring. Please help. I hope I did this right. It,s my first time on this site.

CRFARM: You are correct. One fiber has to go behind the snap ring. It is something that is very often overlooked. Steve.

350 steering clutch snap ring

I put the thing togather today with 1 disk behind the ring and it seams like it works ok. The last person who worked on it didn,t do this and the snap ring and first disk was a mess. Thanks for the info.

I just finised up a clutch on my 350 as well. That is correct, I take it you don't have a service manual. Don't over torque the pressure plate. The torque on them should be at 35. Good luck with the rest of the project.
