Manual for 450B (I think)

Post by nathan619 » Wed Jul 15, 2009 9:01 am

Can someone look at this bulldozer and tell me if it's a 450B? It doesn't have turbo. The serial number is T5F3M 035377T

Also, I've been trying to find a service/maintanence manual for it and I'm not sure what to get. Is it considered a bulldozer, a crawler, skidder, or what? I'm assuming bulldozer but I have no ideal what the others are. I found this link but I'm not sure if it's even the right place. http://www.johndeeretechinfo.com/index. ... ductSearch
Can someone help me to get the correct manual? Or where to go to get one?

Thanks...

Where would the model (450B, etc) be located on the dozer?

I really need to try and get a manual by this weekend.

According to this link (thanks to Stan):

http://www.jdcrawlers.com/messageboard/ ... php?t=2415

...Your 35377 serial number is a 1966 straight 450...
If that is indeed the case, then you would need the JD service manual number SM2064 from their site:

http://www.johndeeretechinfo.com/index. ... ctNavigate

Your machine is a construction machine; a crawler tractor with an outside mount bulldozer; the complete machine is commonly called a bulldozer.
You may want to purchase a parts catalog, too, as they are sometimes of great help in working on the machines: the straight 450 parts catalog is number PC922... also the basic Operators manual is number OMT23808.

Normally, the series deignation is on the outside of the battery box/hydraulic tanks on the sides in bold black letters... yours appears to be missing.

I really appreciate that information. I went and looked real close at those places on the side and I can just barely make out that it is a JD450, so you're right. They are real hard to see.

As far as the catalog numbers you gave, the numbers you provided are for that 450 but there's also others that are described as the same exact model. Am I looking at it wrong at that site? It's very confussing how they're listed. The Owner's Manual in perticular. Why wouldn't it be OMT26184 instead of OMT23808? THIS I EDITED LATER: I went ahead and ordered the OMT23808 and it seems a little different than what I have. I don't have a winch and the cockpit controls are a little different and plus I have the roll cage.

I agree; the JD Bookstore Site can be confusing... I got the operators manual number from this page:

http://www.johndeeretechinfo.com/index. ... %20MANUALS

The page shows ten 450 operator manuals; of those, only four are in English; #OMT23810 is for a 450 Loader, #OMT26184 is for a 450 inside mount bulldozer, #OMT32592 is also (?) for a 450 Loader, and the one I mentioned for you is #OMT23808, since the picture of your 450 is an OUTSIDE mount bulldozer. I'm pretty sure that ANY of these operator manuals would cover the basics of operating and maintaining the machine since they are all the same basic tractor with different attachments... the safest thing would be to ask a JD dealer which manual is which, but in my experience they often don't know either.
Just to make things more confusing, John Deere also makes OTHER equipment that has a 450 series designation; I know they made a big hydraulic excavator that is a 450, and I think they made some green farm equipment 450's,and lawn and garden 450's, too.
I hope the manual you got helps to solve your problems, and I'm sorry if I steered you wrong.

I read through the manual today and it's a little different in areas but like you said, it's basically the same machine.

I appreciate your help. I'm good to go this weekend and hopefully can get it fixed.
