JD 350 front idler replacement?

Post by kwtownsend » Thu Jul 23, 2009 5:19 pm

How thick should the "flange" be on the front idler on a John Deere 350 crawler? I know there is a measuring auage for this, but on mine the edges that the track runs along are less than 1/4" and there are chunks broken out. I think they may need to be replaced. How thick should those edges be?

I have new front idlers for a 2010 crawler. If Lavoy or someone else can confirm that the front idlers for a 2010 and 350 are similar, then I could measure mine and let you know.

Man it is tough to get old and forgetful. As soon as I read gauge, I remembered that I have an undercarriage gauge for 2010/350.
New appears to be just shy of 3/4", allowable wear is about 3/16".
As to 2010/350 front idlers, 350 is different, but the wear specs are the same, so the you could measure your NOS ones for an accurate height.

Hi Lavoy-

When measuring wear on the front idler flanges, is it mainly for flange height, flange thickness, or both? For thickness, is it from outer face to inner face?

It is both, for the thickness, they go by overall width.
