350B lost right steer clutch
350B lost right steer clutch
Looking for a little help on diagnosis.
New to me dozer 350b. Newer undercarriage. Reverser. 6 way. Everything works as it should give the age.
I have used it around 5 times, great power, no clutch slippage. Definitely the right size dozer I was looking for.
Put it away 2-3 weeks ago (inside). Started it up Sunday 20F outside. Put the reverser in forward. Motor lugged, dozer wouldn't move. Went to neutral. Then to reverse, same thing. Went to forward again, and got a nice big POP.
Drove outside to move some snow, at that point, I realized I lost my right steer. Still have left steer. Right is completely gone. Up til then both worked fine.
What did I do wrong? It was above freezing when I parked it. Is there anywhere water can get in? It was lightly misting and very humid when I had it out before.
I figure the track is coming off for sure.

I park it with the foot brake off, and the levers at the dash.
The engine does not lug at all, lever comes all the way back. Still drives fine. Just doing all my steering with the left.
The guy I bought this from gave me 5 or 6 operators manuals. But no service manual. I do have an exploded parts view to at least get me started.

Sounds like your pressure plate blew in half. There are 3- 5/16" bolts that hold the pressure plate together. there only 3/4"long, the threads strip out and they blow apart. Mine did that time.Everything worked good for half hour then i lost everything on the one side. Another thing to remember you parked the machine in say warm weather? and started it in cold, they do freeze to the ground so be alittle careful when 1st trying to move. Dave
I did park it when it was warmer 35f and very humid. I have it parked on plywood over concrete, so its something inside that froze up, not the tracks to the ground.
Its suppose to be 40 here the next few days, so I get the track off. Then start chasing down a service manual.
When I get it apart, I get a pic up here.
Is there any value in the operators manuals? Looks like the previous owner got quite a few revisions from someone working at a dealer. Also have an op manual for a 440 and parts breakdown manual.

If I understand you correctly you can steer to the left but not to the right, I had a simular problem. My left clutch was slipping so bad that it wouldn't grab enough to turn to the right. I'd pull it against a immovable object and if your tracs both spin its not the clutch, the track that doesn't move is the one with the bad clutch. I just did a clutch job on my 350b last week, it was way easier than I expected! Got the track off without knocking the master pin out and got it done start to finish in 6 hours with very cheap limited tools with no help. I have step by step pictures if you pm me your email I'll send them, one I find a program to resize them I will post them but they are huge now. Good luck

Guess I should have said it better, or explained.
I think it is the brake that is gone, not the clutch. I took the dozer out in the field and had no problem peeling back 6 inches of dirt. So much for mid-Michigan being frozen.

I see, either way the final drive is probably coming off, and these pictures will show you exactly what to expect! Before you do any work pull the seat off and open the inspection plate, with a flashlight you can clearly see the top of the brake drum and the band, it may be something obvious and simple right there, I can take a picture of what it should look like if you would like
