Water in oil
Water in oil
Hello everyone. Hope new year is being nice to all. Had head crack on my 450b, so got water in crankcase. Changed head, new gaskets and all that stuff. Ran diesel through pan to rinse out gunk. Then new filter and oil. Ran for about five minutes and oil is milky again. Didn't put water in radiator yet, didn't run long enough to get warm just circulate, so has to be residual. What is best way to clean system? Need clean to make sure cracked head only problem(hope). Thanks
I know a character who poured 6 quarts of lacquer thinner in the crankcase (after draining) & introduced a small bore tube through the dip stick tube. He then affixed the tube to a regulated blow-off gun so as to make the thinner 'boil' vigorously overnight. The next day he had a cloud of thinner mist about that reminded us of one of Uncle Sam's butane bombs. The sludge which was fouling the oil pick-up screen was gone with the thinner drain. Lacquer thinner is miscible in oil & water, so would be amenable to your situation. The van in question evidenced no ill affects (further blockage of the screen, smoking, or oil leakage at any gasket or seal); in fact it ran another 70,000 + miles racking up enough insurance settlements to double its original used purchase price. We were very proud the mist didn't ignite (we were within four blocks of the local cop shop.
