thank you for the quick responce Lavoy.I just removed the reverser and it wasant wet on the output of reverser or input of trans. the shafts feal good on the runout.the owner siad that in a few hours runing the reverser would be 2 qts low and start to act up. the trans oil level would be over so he had a gear lube pump that he used to pump it back into the reverser.he had been doing that for a number of years.i came into the picture when motor was out so i didnt see it for myself.this is the first one i have workted on and dont know alot about them.it looks like the pump for the rev is also used for stearing clutches. is that right ?

If so, you must be talking about a C model with wet clutches?

Then I would have to plead ignorance, not enough experience on that one. I have heard reasons for it though, someone on here will know the answer.

It could be your steering clutches. On C models the clutches are oil applied and spring released. They use reverser oil pressure to keep them applied. Pulling back on your steering lever blocks that oil off. You may have a leaky piston or a supply tube. How does the machine push? If you have an air regulator you can pressurize the clutches with a small (10 PSI) ammount of air at the inlet on the steering control valve. Then you unhook your supply and wait about 10 minutes to see how much the pressure drops. (One note of caution: make sure the steering lever linkage is still attached to your conrtol valve or else the spools pop out!!!).
