3325 winch control valve

Post by tjdub » Sun Aug 01, 2010 8:58 pm

I just bought my first crawler: a 1967 JD 450.

It has a 3325 winch on it, but the free-spool mode doesn't work. I took the brake apart and the spool spins fine. With the brake disassembled, the brake cylinder extends with no leaks. It just doesn't have any pressure to activate the cylinder when the springs are installed. When in wind mode it has loads of power even when pulling through the brake, so I think this has to be a problem with the control valve, right?

It has the rotary control valve which I've read (mostly on here) that was not used for very long before deere went back to using a spool valve instead.

Does anyone know where I can get a used control valve like the one I have or if it's possible to take mine apart to fix it? Otherwise, is it possible to retrofit a generic spool valve? Deere no longer sells a replacement spool valve either.
