I found water

Post by Paul45 » Fri Aug 20, 2010 3:19 am

I took the inspection covers off to find water in the right side clutch housing. the drain plug was already remove but pluged with dirt, i got about two or three cups of water which had some black oil in it, I am not sure if it is oil or the brake band dust mixed with the water.?
I am in the process of removeing thr final and wondering what parts i will need because of the water?
Thanks Paul
thanks Paul

Hi,

Fiber discs and a brake band at the least, I suspect. You might be able to clean up the steel discs, but if it were me doing all the work to yank it apart, I'd get new steels as well....

Dang those pesky plugged drain holes, anyway!

Your subject title had me thinking I was about to see a crawler sunk in the muck. That's the usual way we 'find water' around here! :P

Thanks Stan, the machine is kept under cover but had it in the woods pulling tree's out and it rained hard for a couple of hours, the inspection plates were on but with only two bolts rather than four.

i am thinking i should change everything with new ? from what i've read here, once you do one side with new you will want to do the other so the right and left act the same?

the brake band was bad when i bought it, made alot of left turns LOL, but i LOVE this machine, cant believe how much it can pull and push.

Thanks for your response ahead of time. Paul
thanks Paul

Hi,

Yes, I do that job in pairs. Not that I've had a situation where something odd happened to only one side, though. In my case, it's always been due to normal wear and so if one side starts acting up it won't be long before the other side does as well.

So, I bite onto that particular bullet and just do both sides at the same time.
